Yahoo Jesus 5

We left off with Jesus as the human search engine for learning all we need to know about God. So, let’s seek and see what we find.

“Tell us, Jesus, this Bible is a big book. There’s a whole lot of stuff in here. It’s very confusing. It’s almost like a whole bunch of different people wrote it at different times, in different languages, writing to different people with different world views, with different political agendas. It’s hard to figure out what to believe and what not to believe; what to take as bottom-line and non-negotiable and what to see as culturally relative. So tell us, Jesus, what do we do with all this stuff.

“Love thy God with all thy heart, mind, and soul; and to do that, love thy neighbor as thyself.”

“OK, Jesus, but is there anything you can say to help us get a better idea of who or what God is. We want desperately to believe, help our unbelief.

“If you’ve seen me, you have seen the Father.” Translation: live like I do. Lead a life of truth, justice. Above all, don’t hesitate to speak out when confronted with evil or injustice or hypocrisy, even if it might make some people uncomfortable. Sometimes, people should be made to feel uncomfortable.

“OK, Jesus, but what about all this other stuff about ritual and ceremony and all these rules.

“Was man made for the Sabbath, or was the Sabbath made for man?” Translation: I’m not a ritual kind of a guy. Neither is God. Make your rituals the practice of speaking the truth, doing justice, loving one another, living a Sabbath life all day everyday.

“OK, Jesus, but how do we get to the Kingdom of God?

“I think I just told you. But if not, how about this: Follow me…….”

“OK, Jesus, but there’s just one more thing we have to do.” Let
us pray, “Thank you, Jesus, for being a yahoo.”

“EEEHAAA. YAAAHOOOO.”

AMEN.
